Batman Forever was panned by both critics and fans upon release, but some fans still hope to see a "Schumacher Cut" released. With the Designer aiding him in his plan, it appears that the Riddler hasn't quite given up on his old plans to build a truly magnificent criminal plan.Carrey played Edward Nygma/The Riddler opposite Val Kilmer's Batman in Batman Forever, directed by the late Joel Schumacher. As he uses his tech to conquer the city, this Riddler is also driven by the desire to prove himself as the greatest of all his previous incarnations. Within his lair, Harley Quinn and Catwoman were attacked by brainwashed members of Gotham Police which could be an indication of his plan. Just as Jim Carrey's Riddler wanted to use his machine to entrap all of Gotham City, this Riddler has hinted at the use of some form of a "technological labyrinth" to end any opposition to his proposed reign. While another villain's plan directly targets Batman's greatest asset, the Riddler's description of his plan has indicated his desire to attack all of Gotham. It would seem that the Riddler feels that his most recent transformation, who was unlimited information on Gotham, could be the key to unlocking the version of himself that could be the ultimate victor. As revealed in a flashback, the Riddler was introduced to the Designer who promised to help him achieve his ultimate vision. The Designer wanted to help four of Gotham's biggest criminals in finding the version of themselves that could beat Batman and finally win. At the same time, this Riddler is also facing his own identity crisis.
